Programme Overview
The objectives of this programme is to produce highly skilled graduates that possess solid foundation knowledge in the general field of mechanical engineering technology and in the areas of product development particularly. The programme has been designed in a holistic manner to provide students with a blend of theoretical knowledge, industrial artistic and technical skills in the discipline of technology-based product development in line with the requirements of the mechanical engineering industry. Therefore, it would help in producing engineering technologist who are responsible in applying, preparing, maintaining and development products in all aspects to modern mechanical engineering technology.
Core Skills Developed
The programme develops graduates with strong technical and professional competencies in product design and mechanical engineering technology. Students acquire core skills in engineering design, computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), product modelling, engineering drawing, materials selection, manufacturing processes, rapid prototyping, and product testing. Through project-based learning and practical laboratory experience, students learn to transform design concepts into functional prototypes while considering product performance, manufacturability, cost, quality, safety, and sustainability. The programme also strengthens analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, project management, technical communication, teamwork, and lifelong learning skills, enabling graduates to develop innovative engineering solutions and adapt to evolving manufacturing technologies, digital engineering tools, and Industry 4.0 practices.
