Programme Overview
Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Industrial Biotechnology) with Honours is a program specifically designed to provide students with blended knowledge and skills in biotechnology-based disciplines such as microbiology, biomolecular & genetic engineering, fermentation technology, cell & tissue culture technology and chemical engineering principles for an industrial oriented profession. Those disciplines are integrated into Chemical Engineering Technology education system that emphasizes on intensive practical skills besides providing adequate communication and soft skills that could equip the graduates to serve in the biotechnology-based industries and biofuels, biopharmaceuticals, enzymes, biomaterials and bioenergy that ensure sustainability and optimization of resources used.
Core Skills Developed
The Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Industrial Biotechnology) with Honours programme develops graduates with strong technical knowledge and practical competencies in bioprocess engineering, industrial biotechnology, fermentation technology, downstream processing, and sustainable biomanufacturing. Students acquire hands-on skills in microbiological and biomolecular laboratory techniques, bioprocess operation, process instrumentation and control, data analysis, and process optimisation. The programme also equips students with the ability to integrate chemical engineering principles with biotechnology applications in the production of biopharmaceuticals, food and bio-based products, and renewable bioproducts. In addition, graduates develop competencies in problem-solving, digital technologies, communication, teamwork, project management, and professional ethics, enabling them to contribute effectively to the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, food, environmental, and bio-based industries while promoting innovation and sustainable industrial practices.
Specialized Facilities
Chemical engineering laboratories include a process control and instrumentation laboratory, a unit operations laboratory, analytical laboratories, a computer laboratory with engineering simulation software, and pilot-scale processing equipment. Biotechnology laboratories include a microbiology and fermentation laboratory and a tissue culture and biomolecular laboratory. These facilities enable students to develop technical competencies, conduct experiments, analyse process data, and gain hands-on experience that prepares them for careers in the chemical and biotechnology industries.
